How to Write a Job Description That Gets Applications (Not Just Views)
A job post is an advertisement. Most Indian job posts read like an HR form and get views without applications. Here is a template that has consistently doubled application rates on Enlist India.
On our platform, two postings for the same role can differ five-fold in applications. The difference is never the company name. It is whether the post answers the four things a candidate wants to know in the first ten seconds: what will I do, what will I earn, where, and can I get it.
The template
- Title = the actual designation. "Accounts Executive – Tally & GST" beats "Finance Professional Required Urgently". Candidates search by designation.
- Salary range, always. Posts with a salary get 2–3× the applications. If the number is incentive-heavy, write "₹18–22K fixed + incentives up to ₹10K".
- Location down to the area. "Naroda GIDC, Ahmedabad", not "Gujarat". Commute decides attendance.
- Three to five bullet points of actual work. Verbs first: "Prepare monthly GST returns", "Handle 40 inbound calls a day".
- Must-haves only. Every requirement that is not a real dealbreaker removes good candidates. Two-wheeler, shift timings and specific software belong here; "excellent communication skills" does not.
- Timing. Working days, shift, and whether Saturday is on.
- How hiring works. "Telephonic round, then one in-person interview at the plant. Decision within a week." Candidates apply when they can see the finish line.
What to cut
Company histories longer than two lines, "dynamic self-starter" adjectives, and the word "urgent" (it reads as churn).
