How to Get a Job in a Bank in India: Private Banks, Roles, Eligibility and Pay

Private banks hire continuously, in every city, and most of it never appears in newspapers. The volume roles — the ones you will see posted week after week — are below.

Entry roles and what they need

• Personal Banker / Relationship Officer — any graduate, 0–3 years, good spoken English and Hindi or the local language. Targets on accounts, deposits and cross-sell. ₹3–5 LPA.
• Branch Sales Officer / Business Development Executive — graduate, field role, two-wheeler usually required. Incentive-heavy. ₹2.5–4 LPA plus incentives.
• Teller / Cashier / Branch Operations — graduate, numerical accuracy, computer literacy. ₹2.5–3.5 LPA.
• Loan Officer (home / personal / vehicle / gold) — graduate, sales aptitude. ₹2.4–4 LPA.
• Credit Analyst / KYC Analyst — commerce graduate or MBA, back-office, no targets. ₹3–5 LPA.

The hiring rounds

1. Application via a job portal or a walk-in drive.
2. HR telephonic screen: location, notice period, salary expectation, willingness for a sales role.
3. Aptitude or psychometric test (online, 30–45 minutes) for many banks.
4. Branch manager / cluster head interview — the real one. They test whether you can talk to a customer.
5. Offer, document verification, then a two-to-four-week induction.

What gets you selected

Comfort with targets. Say plainly that you understand the role is sales-driven and that you have sold something before — even at a family shop or a college event. Neat dress, a working smartphone, and a resume that lists your city and languages.

Public-sector banks
